Around 40 000 residents across KwaZulu-Natal have had their electricity restored after heavy rain and snow caused widespread power outages in parts of the province.

Eskom said its technical teams have been working around the clock to repair faults caused by the adverse weather conditions.

Power has been restored to customers in several areas, including Kokstad, Franklin, Nottingham Road, Underberg, Pietermaritzburg, Margate, Estcourt and Empangeni.

Eskom Repairs Continue In Areas Still Without Power

Despite the progress, Eskom said work is continuing to reconnect customers who remain without electricity.

The utility said some affected areas are proving difficult to reach because roads have been closed as a result of the severe weather.

Technicians have been placed on standby and will attend to outstanding faults as soon as they can safely access the affected areas.

KZN Weather Could Cause Further Power Outages

Eskom has warned that further outages remain possible as the bad weather is expected to continue across the province.

The utility also cautioned that restoration times could be longer than normal while teams deal with weather-related damage and access challenges.

Residents have been urged to treat all electrical installations as live and to keep away from fallen power lines, cables and damaged electrical infrastructure.

Eskom said its teams will continue working to restore electricity to customers still affected by the outages as weather and road conditions allow.
