The father of slain rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes says he has had no communication with the family of Anele Tembe since her death, as the reopened inquest into her passing has been delayed.
Proceedings were expected to begin at the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Monday but were postponed after the presiding magistrate experienced a medical emergency.
Tony Forbes Says He Has Not Spoken To Anele Tembe’s Family
Speaking after the postponement, Tony Forbes said there has been no contact between him and Tembe’s relatives since her death in 2021.
According to Forbes, there has been no reason for the families to remain in communication while legal processes continue.

“We got to that inquest, and we put the facts down, and a decision is made in an informed way. Not based on people just accusing my son of murder without having proof.”
Anele Tembe Inquest Examines Circumstances Surrounding Her Death
Tembe, who was engaged to AKA at the time, died after falling from the tenth floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town in April 2021.
The current proceedings aim to determine whether any individual can be held responsible for her death.
Forbes reiterated the evidence he previously gave during the inquest, saying he believed Tembe may have taken her own life, a conclusion her family has consistently rejected.
“I released to various parties a text between Kiernan and Anele, and Anele talks about why she wants to kill herself.”
The inquest was postponed before any evidence could be heard after the magistrate suffered a medical emergency.
