A 51-year-old businessman from Limpopo is set to appear in court after being arrested in connection with two alleged arson incidents that caused extensive property damage last month.
Police allege the suspect was responsible for setting alight a rehabilitation centre’s signboard and a vehicle in separate incidents, resulting in an estimated R800,000 in damages.
Limpopo Businessman Arrested In Polokwane Arson Investigation
The suspect was taken into custody during an intelligence-led operation at his home in Welgelegen, Polokwane.
According to police, investigators linked him to both fires following an extensive investigation into the incidents that occurred last month.
Authorities also noted that the businessman is known on social media for his anti-drug activism.
Rehabilitation Centre Fire And Vehicle Blaze Caused Extensive Damage
Police said the two alleged arson attacks left property damage estimated at around R800,000.
During one of the incidents, a vehicle caught fire and the flames spread to a nearby house where seven people were asleep at the time.

No details have been released regarding injuries, while investigations into both incidents remain ongoing.
Limpopo SAPS Confirms Court Appearance
Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego and Polokwane Magistrates’ Courts.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego and Polokwane Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, on charges of malicious damage to property. The investigations are ongoing,” Ledwaba said.
Police have indicated that further investigations continue as authorities work to establish all the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.
