The trial involving alleged underworld figure Nafiz Modack is set to resume in the Western Cape High Court on Monday, with the State expected to continue its cross-examination of accused Ziyaad Poole.

Proceedings were adjourned on Thursday last week after co-accused Toufeek Brown became ill, forcing the court to postpone the matter.

The delay followed a dramatic week in court during which Brown and three fellow accused walked out of the courtroom while directing profanities in the presence of Judge Robert Henney. Brown reportedly took issue with evidence presented by the State that referred to his wife by name.

Nafiz Modack Faces More Than 100 Charges In Ongoing Trial

Brown is one of 14 accused standing trial alongside Modack, who faces more than 100 charges. The allegations against Modack include money laundering, racketeering, extortion and the murder of Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear.

The case remains one of the most closely watched criminal trials in South Africa due to the seriousness of the charges and the number of accused involved.
