Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni has declined to provide details on individuals or groups identified by government authorities as being behind recent anti-immigration protests and related violence.
Speaking during a post-Cabinet media briefing on Friday, Ntshavheni said releasing such information could interfere with ongoing investigations and security operations being conducted by law enforcement agencies and the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS).
She also cautioned those participating in the demonstrations against attempting to enforce immigration laws themselves, warning that such actions fall outside the bounds of the law.
Khumbudzo Ntshavheni: Government Cites Security Concerns Over Disclosure
Ntshavheni said the government was withholding information about the organisers and participants involved in the protests because public disclosure could negatively affect ongoing security efforts.
“If, when we then disclose our categorisation of the people behind the marches and everything else, we may compromise the work being done by law enforcement and NATJOINTS,” said Ntshavheni.
The minister reiterated that authorities are continuing to monitor the situation through the country’s established security and intelligence structures.
Ramaphosa To Announce South Africa’s New Migration Action Plan
During the briefing, Ntshavheni also confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation soon on government’s revised approach to migration.
According to Ntshavheni, Cabinet has approved a comprehensive migration strategy developed by the inter-ministerial committee on migration, along with the National Action Plan country report on migration in South Africa.

The president will address the nation on this matter,” said Ntshavheni.
Further details on the migration framework are expected once the president delivers his address.
