Mr. Trump was the overwhelming favorite to win the state, and all eyes were on his margin of victory and who would finish in second place. Florida governor Ron DeSantis and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley were both hoping for respectable results to position themselves as credible challengers.
Mr. DeSantis finished just ahead of his rival, but both were well behind the former president, who secured more than 50% of the vote. In anticipation of the caucuses, Mr. Trump had urged his supporters to brave extremely cold temperatures, jokingly stating, “even if you vote and then pass away, it’s worth it.”

As his victory became clear, Mr. Trump expressed gratitude to those who supported him and outlined his plans if he were to regain the White House. Covering familiar ground, he pledged to address the issue of migration at the Mexico border, emphasizing the need to stop the “invasion.”
He also reiterated his commitment to the energy sector, stating, “drill baby drill” for oil. Additionally, he promised swift resolutions to the Israel-Hamas and Ukraine conflicts, despite their complex nature, and repeated his debunked claims regarding the alleged election fraud in the previous election.
The voting process among Republican Party members began at 7 pm local time on Monday, taking place in numerous schools, community centers, and other venues across Iowa. Attendees had the opportunity to listen to speeches on behalf of each candidate before making their choice.
Mr. Trump is currently forecasted to secure 20 delegates in Iowa, with Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley earning eight and seven delegates respectively. The former president’s share of the overall vote is predicted to be 51%, while the Florida governor and Ms.
Haley is at 21% and 19% respectively. If verified, this result would comfortably represent the largest-ever margin of victory in the state.
The outcome of the Iowa caucuses sets the stage for the upcoming Republican primaries and the eventual selection of the party’s candidate for the November election. As Donald Trump secures a significant win in Iowa, his position as a frontrunner becomes even more apparent.
