Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize is no stranger to the high stakes of professional football. As the owner of Royal AM FC, she recently found herself in the eye of a storm, both on and off the pitch.
The 2023/2024 season brought with it a nerve-wracking battle against relegation, and the football club narrowly escaped the drop by finishing in 23rd place with 33 points.
In the final moments of the season, Royal AM FC managed to cling to their spot in the league by just two points, leaving Richards Bay Football Club to face the dreaded promotion/relegation play-offs.

Reflecting on this intense period, Shauwn Mkhize expressed her relief and joy, “Sporting a smile and breathing in a deep sigh of relief as we drew to an end, this challenging soccer season – a weight lifted off our shoulders!”
Shauwn couldn’t have put it better when she echoed the famous words of Coach Thobejane, “Football can kill you, a real death.” The emotional rollercoaster that comes with managing a football club is no small feat, and this season was a testament to that.
If the football season wasn’t stressful enough, Shauwn also faced significant challenges off the pitch.
In May, she made headlines for potentially losing her luxurious cars and house due to a substantial tax debt of over R37 million owed to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
Yet, with the football season behind her, she looks forward to enjoying the smaller joys of life without the looming threat of relegation or tax troubles.
Shauwn Mkhize’s story is a compelling blend of resilience, passion, and the high stakes of both football and business. As the dust settles, we can only watch and see what the next chapter holds for this formidable woman.
