Modise Says Northern Cape Fires Will Not Impact SANDF Capability.

During a memorial service for six SANDF soldiers who tragically lost their lives in a wildfire at the Lohatla Military Combat Training Centre in the Northern Cape, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thandi Modise, assured the nation that the fires would not impact the capability of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to defend the country.

Modise’s words aimed to dispel any concerns about the SANDF’s ability to protect South Africa despite the loss of equipment in the fire.

Thandi Modise emphasized, “Nobody will say we are vulnerable here today because the equipment has burnt, and South Africa cannot be defended. It is defended. There is enough that we can go on to defend this country.”

The Minister acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the wildfires and highlighted the alarming speed at which they spread.

She also pointed out that South Africa is not the only country experiencing such fires in the face of climate change.

Modise’s statement serves as a reminder that the SANDF remains committed to its duty of safeguarding the nation, even in the face of challenging circumstances.

The loss of equipment in the Northern Cape fires will not hinder their capability to defend South Africa.
