Build One SA leader Mmusi Maimane has officially announced his bid to run for the presidency in this year’s election, taking a swipe at the current political leadership in the country.

Speculation surrounding Maimane’s potential candidacy began when he launched Build One SA two years ago, and it was confirmed at a party event last year. On Wednesday, Maimane took to social media to declare that it was his time to lead, stating, “No John. No Julius. It’s time for Maimane.”

Maimane emphasized that South Africa should not be governed by thugs, racists, or dictators. He believes that the country needs visionary and ethical leadership driven by a deep love for all South Africans.

In his view, there is no future in the African National Congress (ANC) and it is time to stop fantasizing about an ANC that works, as those days are long gone. During a party event in September, Maimane outlined his key focus areas, which include education, health, and unemployment.

He pledged to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and promised to create a job in every home. To achieve this, Maimane plans to invest over R200 billion in creating new jobs and wealth through the establishment of economic zones in townships.

He also intends to implement an extended Public Works program, providing unemployed individuals with opportunities for internships and volunteer work to gain experience.

Maimane further proposed the introduction of a jobs and justice capital fund, requiring companies that have benefited from the past to contribute to funding new businesses.

Additionally, he aims to address the issue of power generation by introducing safe nuclear options to prevent load shedding and ensure a consistent supply of electricity for the people.

Transnet, the logistics company responsible for transporting goods in and out of South Africa, is another area that Maimane intends to fix. He believes that appointing new leadership within Transnet is crucial to ensuring the efficiency of the country’s transport logistics.

Education is also a priority for Maimane, who plans to introduce a collaborative school system. This system would allow parents to choose where their child will attend school, regardless of their location.

Mmusi Maimane envisions collaborative schools where subjects are taught more effectively, ultimately transforming the education system for the betterment of young people.

In his commitment to fighting corruption, Maimane promised to increase the number of police officers on the ground by 120,000 and establish specialized corruption courts. He emphasized that those found guilty of corruption would face severe consequences, with a proposed minimum sentence of 15 years.
