Former African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule, during a walkabout in Pietermaritzburg Church Street, expressed his confidence in his new party’s ability to emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.

He also asserted that no election rigging would be tolerated. However, his remarks raised eyebrows when he was asked about his involvement in election rigging while still a member of the ruling party.

Magashule confidently stated, “We’re going to win the elections, we’re very confident. There’s not going to be any rigging of elections. Our eyes are going to be open because we know.

I’ve been part of the ANC; we know what’s going to happen. All these black parties, we have met and agreed that we’re not going to allow any elections to be rigged,” as reported by Newsroom Afrika.

However, when questioned about his own party’s involvement in election rigging while he was still a member of the ANC, Magashule quickly denied any wrongdoing. He then criticized the government for the implementation of the R350 Sassa SRD grant, which occurred during his tenure as ANC secretary-general.

Magashule’s response to the accusation of election rigging was a straightforward “no.” He went on to criticize the ANC, saying, “He [Cyril Ramaphosa] says if ANC is not in power, people are not going to get their social grants, people are not going to get R350.

“So R350 is meant for black people? Black people must live on R350? How much is food? Can you spend R350 the whole week?”

Expressing concern for the welfare of the people, Magashule questioned the distribution of the R350 grant, suggesting that it was not sufficient to cover basic needs.

He highlighted the need for mental consciousness, urging the ANC to move away from focusing solely on black consciousness and instead adopt a more inclusive approach that prioritizes the well-being of all citizens. He emphasized the importance of not deceiving or lying to the people about corruption within the government.

In August, Magashule launched his new far-left party called the African Congress for Transformation (ACT) after being expelled from the ANC in June for misconduct.

The party recently announced its alliance with former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, forming the “Magashule Zuma United Front.” This collaboration aims to bring about a departure from traditional politics and adopt a more people-centric approach, according to the ACT.
