The Ntuzuma Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal has sentenced a 31-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his mentally disabled biological mother. The case has shocked the community, particularly due to the man’s lack of remorse for his actions.
According to Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the man raped his mother multiple times. The assaults began in 2020 in the KwaMashu area, where the man and his mother lived together.
Despite her complaints to people around her, no one initially took her seriously. The situation came to light only when her sister visited from out of the province, and the mother pleaded to leave with her.

The sister reported the matter to the police, who then arrested the man after the mother identified him.
During the court proceedings, state prosecutor Lisa Abrahams presented testimonies from the man’s mother and her sister, as well as evidence from a J88 form and a psychologist’s report.
The mother’s victim impact statement, facilitated by court preparation officer Senziwe Mthethwa, revealed the long-lasting trauma caused by the incidents. She expressed that she had to relocate due to her son’s actions and noted his complete lack of regret.
The man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for rape. Additionally, the court has ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
The NPA has welcomed the successful prosecution, emphasizing its mandate to protect the most vulnerable members of society. “We commend the work done by the prosecution and the police in securing the conviction,” the NPA stated.
