Former Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has announced her membership in the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), joining the party during a media briefing in Mpumalanga.
Mkhwebane expressed her commitment to upholding the objectives and radical policies of the EFF as outlined in the party’s constitution.
She emphasized that her decision to join the EFF was voluntary and without any personal or material motives.

Mkhwebane, who was removed from her position before her term ended, faced allegations of misconduct and incompetence.
The Section 194 Committee adopted a final report recommending her removal, which was subsequently approved by the National Assembly.
Mkhwebane believes she was targeted for her investigations into various matters, including the CR17 report and the economic impact of the Reserve Bank mandate on the poor.
The EFF, as Mkhwebane’s new political home, opposed her removal and criticized it as a political witch-hunt.
The party plans to challenge the report through a judicial review and has invited Busisiwe Mkhwebane and others to join the legal action.
EFF leader Julius Malema, who initially supported Mkhwebane’s appointment, has since criticized her and accused her of being a spy after she did not take action against the DA that caused her of being a spy first.
Mkhwebane has denied these allegations and expressed her commitment to the EFF’s seven cardinal pillars. She sees her membership in the EFF as an opportunity to contribute to the total emancipation of South Africa.
