Former sports minister Zizi Kodwa and his co-accused, Jehan Mackay, are currently embroiled in a corruption case that has garnered significant public attention.
The charges against them amount to nearly R1.7 million, with allegations centred around bribes received by Kodwa from Mackay between 2015 and 2016. These bribes were purportedly in exchange for lucrative government contracts.
In a recent development, Kodwa’s legal team has sent an application to the state, requesting further particulars concerning the corruption charges. This request was submitted to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) last week.

According to Zizi Kodwa ’s lawyer, Zola Majavu, the questions posed to the state are significant and strike at the core of the allegations against his client.
However, state prosecutor Neville Mogagabe has indicated that he needs additional time to review the applications submitted by the defense. Consequently, the case has been remanded to 21 August to allow the state sufficient time to respond.
Majavu has expressed his hope that a comprehensive reply will be provided before the next court appearance, enabling a clearer understanding of the strength of the state’s case.
Until the state responds to the defence’s request for further particulars, Majavu has stated that he is not in a position to comment on the merits or weaknesses of the case.
Nonetheless, the outcome of this request could significantly influence the direction of the trial and the legal strategies employed by both sides.
