The minister noted that the issue is not isolated, drawing attention to the catastrophic George building collapse where 34 individuals tragically lost their lives.

He stressed that developers, contractors, and all stakeholders involved must recognize their responsibility in safeguarding the lives of workers. The minister’s urgency implies that cutting corners on safety standards is not only irresponsible but also potentially fatal.

To address these pressing concerns, Zikalala advocated for stringent oversight and regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

He encouraged collaboration between regulatory bodies and industry players to foster a culture of safety that permeates all levels of construction activities. By doing so, the industry can mitigate risks and avert further tragedies.
