Two SANDF Soldiers Reportedly Injured In DRC Attack.

On Friday, two soldiers from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) were injured in an attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The incident occurred while the SANDF Oryx helicopter was evacuating a casualty from Rwindi to Goma in the eastern region of the DRC.

The SANDF is currently deployed in the DRC as part of the United Nations’ Mission, known as MONUSCO.

According to SANDF spokesperson Simphiwe Dlamini, the injured personnel include a pilot and a paramedic.

The pilot and commander of the aircraft sustained a gunshot wound to his finger, while the ops medic on the flight was injured on his chest. Fortunately, the injured soldiers are in stable condition.

The rest of the passengers onboard the helicopter were unharmed, and the aircraft safely landed in Goma. The Oryx, operating under the United Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was conducting a casualty evacuation mission from Rwindi to Goma.

At this time, the names of the injured soldiers have not been released. This incident follows a similar attack in February of last year, where another Oryx helicopter came under fire in Goma, resulting in the death of a South African soldier.

The SANDF plays a crucial role in supporting the United Nations’ efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the DRC. Despite the risks involved, their commitment to fulfilling their mission remains unwavering.
