A devastating fire broke out in a two-story residential building in the central business district (CBD) of Johannesburg, resulting in the loss of two lives and the rescue of five individuals. The incident occurred at the intersection of Commissioner and Nugget Streets, sending shockwaves through the community.
The Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) received an emergency call in the early hours of Sunday morning, alerting them to the fire. Immediate action was taken, but tragically, two individuals were forced to jump from the second floor in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.
Three others were successfully rescued from the balcony, while two unfortunate souls lost their lives in the blaze. The search and rescue operations are ongoing, with four individuals receiving medical care at nearby healthcare facilities.

According to Xolile Khumalo, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Emergency Services, the fire spread rapidly throughout the building due to the presence of highly combustible materials. The intensity of the blaze affected multiple levels of the structure, making it challenging for firefighters to contain.
