On Monday night, 06 May 2024, the 72-hour activation of maximum resources by police officers in the King Cetshwayo District resulted in the arrest of three suspected hitmen.

These individuals were apprehended for charges including kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Last week, in the early hours of Friday, two suspects entered a house in the Cinci area of Kwambonambi, posing as police officers. Their intentions were clear as they demanded both a firearm and money from the homeowner.

After coercing the owner to leave with them, the suspects returned to the same house and kidnapped the victim’s wife.

Tragically, the kidnapped woman was later found dumped in the Mposa area with a gunshot wound to her face. Fortunately, she received immediate medical attention at a nearby clinic.

However, the husband was not as fortunate, as his life was taken by the ruthless suspects. His body was discovered dumped in the bushes.

The relentless efforts of the police officers involved led them to Highflats and Umlazi, where they successfully cornered and arrested three suspects.

These individuals were found in possession of three firearms and ammunition of various calibers. Additionally, the vehicle used as a getaway from the crime scene was recovered and seized.

Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, commended the efforts of the police officers involved in this case.

He emphasized that the swift identification and subsequent arrest of the suspects demonstrated the capability of the police in KwaZulu-Natal to crack any case, regardless of its complexity.

Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi stated, “We cannot allow criminals to control our communities. We cannot tolerate a society living in fear due to self-proclaimed criminal masterminds.

The police are here to prevent and combat crime. This arrest serves as proof that should a crime occur, our reactive capacity is more than capable of bringing the perpetrators to justice. No criminal will have a peaceful sleep.”
