Former Ukhozi FM presenter Ngizwe Mchunu has been left shocked after his home in Mbumbulu, south of Durban, was burnt down on Sunday, 10 May.

Mchunu, who refers to himself as the president of Amabhinca, was not at home when the incident occurred.

It is alleged that unknown men arrived at the property looking for him shortly before the house caught fire.

Mchunu is among the activists leading large marches against immigrants in South Africa.

The motive for the attack remains unclear.

Mchunu’s friend and fellow activist, Nkosikhona Phakelumthakathi Ndaba, confirmed that the house and furniture were damaged in the blaze.

“Fortunately, no one was injured, but the home and furniture were damaged. What is important is that no lives were lost,” said Phakelumthakathi.

Activists Say Incident Follows Another Recent Attack

Phakelumthakathi said this was not the first time members of their movement had been targeted.

“This shocks us because we have learnt that two weeks ago, one of our activists, Felemntwini Gumede from Umzimkhulu, also had his home damaged,” he said.

He said they viewed the incident as a direct attack because of their campaign against illegal immigration.

“We want to send a message that we know there are South Africans who are against what we do. We warn them to stop. We are working peacefully and not killing or assaulting anyone, except those who are part of us, just to reprimand them.

“To those who are protecting illegal immigrants – whether government officials, police or hitmen – please stop, because you know that the nation needs our action,” he said.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
