The South African Army is mourning the loss of six brave soldiers who tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire at the South African Army Combat Centre (CTC) in Lohatla, Northern Cape.

The fire, which was caused by wildfires that ravaged the area, resulted in the deaths of Staff Sergeant Abraham Desember Morajane, Staff Sergeant Sipho Berrington Cele, Corporal Sithembiso Wiseman Ndwalane, Corporal Noxolo Faith Ngubane, Lance Corporal Prince Michael Mthethwa, and Lance Corporal Londiwe Purity Zulu.

These fallen warriors will always be remembered for their fearlessness, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication throughout their military careers. Their loss is deeply felt within the South African Military fraternity, and they will be sorely missed.

The Chief Army Corporate Services expressed their condolences to the families, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased.

Defence and Military Veterans Minister, Thandi Modise; Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thabang Makwetla; Acting Secretary for Defence, Dr Thobekile Gamede; Chief of the South African National Defence Force, General Rudzani Maphwanya; and Chief of the South African Army, Lieutenant General Lawrence Khulekani Mbatha also conveyed their deepest sympathies.

The President was informed by the South African National Defence Force that the wildfire, which started in Khathu in the Gamagara local municipality, had spread to the military base, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and injuries to three soldiers.

The army also suffered significant equipment and vehicle damage due to the blaze.
