Suspended police sergeant Fannie Nkosi’s legal challenges are expected to intensify after the State indicated plans to combine two criminal matters against him into a single court process.
Nkosi appeared briefly in the Pretoria North Magistrates Court on Thursday, where proceedings were postponed to 22 July to allow for the possible centralisation of the Pretoria and Thohoyandou cases.
The suspended officer remains in custody after being denied bail last month. The court previously ruled that he could evade trial if released.
State Seeks Centralisation Of Pretoria And Thohoyandou Cases
The Pretoria North case relates to a police raid conducted at Nkosi’s home in April. During the operation, authorities allegedly found firearms, ammunition and official police dockets.
The Thohoyandou matter centres on allegations that Nkosi removed marijuana from police custody under false pretences during an incident in 2022.
Prosecutors now want both matters heard together through a legal process known as centralisation, which allows related criminal cases to proceed before a single court.

Nkosi’s original legal representatives have since withdrawn from the matter.
A new defence team is expected to contest the earlier decision to deny him bail as the case returns to court later this year.
Nkosi previously appeared before the Madlanga commission, where some witnesses accused him of acting as a link between senior police officials and alleged crime figures.
