The Patriotic Alliance has announced plans to contest every ward in South Africa during the 2026 municipal elections, marking a significant expansion of its national footprint.
The party will field candidates in all wards across the country’s 257 municipalities when voters head to the polls in next year’s local government elections.
This will be only the second time the party takes part in municipal elections. In its debut appearance in the 2021 local polls, the Patriotic Alliance contested in just 80 municipalities.
Patriotic Alliance Expands 2026 Municipal Election Campaign Nationwide
Party president Gayton McKenzie recently shared the ambitious strategy on social media, saying he wants the party represented in every corner of the country.
According to McKenzie, the goal is to ensure that each community has direct access to a Patriotic Alliance councillor.
Gayton McKenzie Calls For Councillor Recruitment In Every Community
“Every area must have a councillor. Now it is clear that you have a job in every area, there must be a councillor standing, and there must be a PR councillor.
“If you work with somebody, you must recruit that person to stand as a councillor; you don’t need experience, you just need a love for people.”

McKenzie encouraged party members and supporters to identify individuals in their communities who are willing to stand as candidates, stressing that commitment to serving people is more important than prior political experience.
