Political fixer Brown Mogotsi will remain in custody for at least another seven days after his bail application was postponed to next Monday.
Mogotsi appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday, where his legal team argued that the charges brought against him were unfounded.
He was arrested on Friday shortly after giving evidence at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is probing allegations of corruption within the police.
Brown Mogotsi Faces Charge Of Defeating The Ends Of Justice
Mogotsi has been charged with defeating the ends of justice.
The State alleges that he orchestrated his own attempted assassination in Vosloorus last year.
His attorney, William Sekgatja, said the defence had seen the additional charges listed in the court documents but was still waiting for full details.
“We are aware of the additional charges. They are there in the J50. We have noticed the J50 and read it. It is in his possession. Obviously, we don’t have the facts behind those particular charges. So, we will wait until we have copies of the docket.”
State Requests More Time To Verify Mahikeng Address
Mogotsi’s legal team had asked for the bail hearing to be scheduled for this Thursday.
However, State prosecutor Thami Mpekana told the court that investigators still need to travel to Mahikeng to verify Mogotsi’s residential address before the application can proceed.
“It must be remembered that the address that is supposed to be verified is not within the province. It is outside the province. And for the police officers to move from one province to another province, there are certain logistics.”

The court subsequently postponed the matter to next Monday, meaning Mogotsi will remain behind bars until then.
