Gauteng residents are being warned to prepare for severe thunderstorms as an unsettled weather system moves across the province.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms, with some areas at risk of heavy rain, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning.
Emergency services in both Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni are on high alert as the storms are expected to move across several parts of the province.
The weather could also affect weekend plans, with conditions expected to remain changeable throughout Friday and into Saturday.
Thunderstorms are forecast to develop over southern and south-western parts of Gauteng before spreading towards the north.
Gauteng Thunderstorms Could Bring Flooding And Hail
SAWS has warned that some areas could experience intense rainfall, strong winds, hail and frequent lightning.
The conditions could result in localised flooding and hazardous driving conditions, particularly in areas affected by heavy downpours.

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution as visibility may deteriorate rapidly during storms and roads could become slippery or flooded.

Johannesburg And Ekurhuleni EMS On High Alert
Emergency services are monitoring the developing weather conditions and have urged residents to remain alert as the storms move through the province.
Ekurhuleni EMS spokesperson William Ntladi called on residents to act quickly if they encounter a life-threatening emergency.

“Residents, remain on high alert and activate assistance soonest to any life-threatening emergencies,” said Ntladi.
With conditions capable of changing quickly, residents heading to the rugby, planning a weekend braai or simply running errands are being encouraged not to rely on a brief spell of sunshine as an indication that the weather has cleared.
