Fruit seller Ahmed Al Ahmed, who was praised for confronting one of the gunmen during last year’s deadly Bondi Beach attack, is no longer facing assault charges.
Australian police withdrew charges against Ahmed during a brief court hearing on Wednesday, with court documents confirming that both charges against him had been dropped.
Ahmed had earlier been accused of stalking and assaulting his father. He denied the allegations.
Bondi Beach Shooting Hero Had Faced Assault Charges
Ahmed became widely recognised for his actions during the December 14 attack at Bondi Beach, where a shooting at a Jewish festival left 15 people dead.
Footage from the incident showed Ahmed moving between parked cars as the shooting unfolded before confronting one of the two gunmen.

He managed to wrestle the weapon away from the attacker in an attempt to stop the shooting. Ahmed was also shot and sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
His actions attracted widespread praise in Australia and beyond, with many hailing him for confronting the gunman while the attack was still underway.
Australian Police Withdraw Charges Against Ahmed
The charges Ahmed faced earlier this year were withdrawn following Wednesday’s short court appearance.
Court documents showed that the stalking and assault allegations involving his father would no longer proceed.
Ahmed had denied the charges before they were withdrawn.
His case had drawn additional attention because of the recognition he received for his actions during the Bondi Beach attack.
Anthony Albanese Praised Ahmed As A “True Australian Hero”
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese later met Ahmed in person following the shooting.
During the meeting, Albanese described Ahmed as a “true Australian hero” and said he was an inspiration to all.

Ahmed’s actions during the attack were captured on video as he moved towards one of the gunmen and disarmed him, despite the danger unfolding around him.
The Bondi Beach shooting, which took place during a Jewish festival on December 14, resulted in 15 deaths and left Ahmed among those injured.
