President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to officially open the newly built King Nyabela Hospital in Middelburg on Tuesday, in a milestone for public healthcare development in Mpumalanga.
The modern 220-bed hospital has been constructed to replace the ageing Middelburg Hospital and will provide improved healthcare services to communities throughout the Nkangala District.
The official launch marks the completion of one of Mpumalanga’s largest healthcare infrastructure developments, nearly a decade after work on the project first got underway.
King Nyabela Hospital Set To Strengthen Healthcare In Mpumalanga
Construction of King Nyabela Hospital began in 2017 as part of government’s long-term plan to replace the old Middelburg Hospital with a more modern healthcare facility.
According to government, the hospital forms part of broader efforts to enhance public healthcare services while increasing access to modern medical treatment for residents across the province.
The Level 1 district hospital includes 220 beds, three state-of-the-art operating theatres, a 24-hour accident and emergency unit, high-care services, and a comprehensive range of clinical departments designed to meet the area’s growing healthcare needs.

Located along the N4 in Middelburg, King Nyabela Hospital is expected to provide healthcare services to thousands of patients living across the Nkangala District.

President Ramaphosa will be accompanied at the official opening by Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu, traditional leaders, and members of the local community.
