The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry says it is ready to arrange security for IDAC prosecutor Drushanta Ramsamy should a threat assessment show that protective measures are required.
The assurance follows Ramsamy’s evidence before the commission, where she raised concerns over the investigation and prosecution of senior Crime Intelligence officials. She is expected to return to the commission on Tuesday to continue her testimony.

The Madlanga Commission says the safety of Drushanta Ramsamy will be considered through the appropriate security processes following her appearance before the inquiry.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said any decision on protection would depend on the outcome of a formal risk and threat assessment.
“As you know, we don’t discuss the details of security arrangements but where necessary, and obviously it is informed by a proper risk and threat analysis, the commission or the employer of those individuals will provide the necessary security,” said Michaels.

During her testimony, Drushanta Ramsamy questioned the process that led to the arrest and prosecution of Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo and the unit’s head of technical support services, Dineo Mokwele.

She told the commission there were several irregularities surrounding the decision to pursue criminal charges against the two senior officials. Her evidence formed part of the commission’s ongoing inquiry into matters involving the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
Madlanga Commission Hears Recording Involving Former IDAC Head Andrea Johnson
One of the key moments during Ramsamy’s testimony came when she played an audio recording of a telephone conversation between herself and former IDAC head Andrea Johnson.

In the recording, Johnson could be heard using profane language while expressing her views about the commission. She also accused the commissioners of acting unprofessionally and claimed their conduct during her own testimony was inappropriate.
Ramsamy is scheduled to appear before the Madlanga Commission again on Tuesday as proceedings continue.
