In a surprising move, Israel launched “limited” strikes on Iran early Friday, despite the reported opposition from the White House. While the exact details of the strikes are still unclear, explosions have been confirmed in Isfahan province, where Natanz is located.

President Joe Biden had previously warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the United States would not participate in any retaliatory attack against Iran.

Axios reported that Biden assured Netanyahu of the U.S.’s lack of support for any retaliatory action. However, it seems that Israel decided to proceed with the strikes regardless.

Following the news of the strikes, Fox News contacted the White House for comment. John Kirby, the White House’s top national security spokesperson, appeared on ABC’s “This Week” program on Sunday, April 14, to clarify the United States’ position.

Kirby emphasized that the U.S. remains committed to helping Israel defend itself but does not seek war with Iran.

He stated, “Our commitment is ironclad” when it comes to defending Israel and assisting in its self-defense. Kirby reiterated that President Biden has consistently expressed his desire to avoid a wider conflict in the region.

During a press briefing, Pentagon Press Secretary General Pat Ryder echoed Kirby’s sentiments, stating that the U.S. does not want to see a wider regional war.

Ryder emphasized that while the U.S. seeks to avoid escalation, it will not hesitate to protect Israel and its personnel if necessary.

The “limited strike” by Israel on Iran follows a retaliatory attack by Iran over the weekend. Iran targeted Israel in response to a deadly strike on Iran’s consulate in Syria earlier in the month, which resulted in the death of several individuals, including a top general.

It is important to note that Israel has not publicly claimed responsibility for the attack on Iran’s consulate. This recent attack by Iran marks a significant escalation of violence, as Iran has traditionally relied on proxy forces in Iraq, Lebanon, and other regions to target Israel.

While the situation between Israel and Iran remains tense, it is crucial for all parties involved to exercise restraint and seek diplomatic solutions. The international community must continue to work towards de-escalation and promote dialogue to prevent further conflict in the region.
