The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party has recently announced the removal of Bonginkosi Education Khanyile from his position as the national coordinator of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Youth League (MKYL).
The decision, made by the party’s secretary-general, Sihle Ngubane, is effective as of Wednesday.
While the party did not provide specific reasons for Khanyile’s removal, they expressed their appreciation for his previous contributions and stated that he would now serve as a normal member of the MK Youth League until his redeployment is determined.

Khanyile’s removal comes after he made public statements last month, suggesting that there would be no elections if former President Jacob Zuma or the MK party were barred from participating.
He claimed that the state security agencies would not prevent the party from halting the elections if Zuma’s name did not appear on the ballot papers. While the party did not explicitly cite these statements as the reason for Khanyile’s dismissal, it is possible that they played a role in the decision.
In addition to Khanyile’s removal, the MK party recently took action against Visvin Reddy, a senior leader in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Reddy appeared in court facing charges of contravening section 17 of the Riotous Assemblies Act, where he allegedly incited public violence.
The party’s spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, stated that members who incite violence would face disciplinary measures. However, Reddy was only served with a warning, and it remains unclear why the party did not take more severe action against him.
In a separate development, the Electoral Court set aside the decision by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) to bar Jacob Zuma from running for parliament.
This ruling clears the way for the former president to contest a seat in the national assembly. Previously, the IEC had upheld an objection to Zuma’s inclusion on the candidate list due to his previous conviction and sentence for contempt of court.
