At OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, Gauteng police have arrested two South Africans for suspected drug trafficking.
The duo, a male and a female, were found in possession of cocaine with an estimated street value of a staggering seven-point-five million rand (R7.5 Million).
Arrivals from Brazil Lead to Arrests
The two suspects were travelling on separate flights from Brazil when they were apprehended by police.
According to police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk, the female suspect was carrying R2.5 million worth of cocaine. In comparison, the male suspect had R5 million worth of the illicit substance hidden in his luggage.
Both individuals were immediately arrested, and the drugs were confiscated.
Ongoing Investigation into Drug Trafficking Ring
Police have stated that investigations are still underway. While the two suspects are facing serious charges related to drug trafficking, authorities are working to determine if they are part of a larger international network.
