Police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the Soshanguve New Year’s Day mass shooting, as two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the attack.
The incident, which took place at Block P, resulted in the tragic deaths of four individuals, including a 14-year-old child and Constable Mpho Kgobotlo, who was a member of the OR Tambo International Airport police.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi addressed the media outside the Soshanguve Police Station, providing updates on the case.

He revealed that the Hawks, a specialized unit within the South African Police Service, are leading the investigation due to the involvement of a deceased police officer. The premier stated, “Two suspects were arrested in the early hours of this morning.
The police are actively searching for additional suspects, but they believe that once they have processed and dealt with those already in custody, they will gain insight into the motive behind this attack.”
