A tragic accident on the N12 freeway near the Putfontein Road off-ramp in Daveyton claimed the lives of four pupils early Monday morning.
The collision, which occurred just before 8 a.m., involved a bakkie and a car. The devastating crash has left the community in shock as authorities continue their efforts to manage the aftermath.
Critical Condition and Ongoing Rescue Operations
As of the latest update, five individuals remain in critical condition, with one adult woman requiring urgent extraction from the wreckage.
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson, William Ntladi, confirmed that the woman is currently being freed using the jaws of life. While she remains in a critical state, she is now stable and will be airlifted to the nearest medical facility for further care.
Traffic Chaos and Safety Warnings
In the wake of the accident, the N12 freeway has been blocked off, causing significant traffic disruptions.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and take alternative routes, such as the Kingsway or Etwatwa off-ramps toward N12 Benoni.

Authorities have also warned against the dangers posed by onlookers, whose presence is contributing to congestion and the risk of additional accidents. Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution when travelling in the area.
