In a tragic accident that occurred on Wednesday, four members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) lost their lives while two others sustained critical injuries.
The incident took place when a Samil truck, which was towing another Samil truck, experienced a burst front tire, causing both vehicles to roll and crash.
Tragically, four soldiers were ejected from the vehicles, and the falling Samil truck landed on top of them, resulting in their immediate death.

The two critically injured soldiers were rushed to Dr. Harry Surtie Hospital in Upington for emergency medical treatment. Additionally, nine soldiers with minor injuries were evacuated to the same hospital for further evaluation and care.
The SANDF has expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident and has confirmed that the families of the deceased soldiers have been informed. Army chaplains and social workers are providing support to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
Defense and military veterans minister Thandi Modise, deputy defense and military veterans minister Thabang Makwetla, acting Secretary for Defence Dr. Thobile Gamede, chief of the SANDF Gen Rudzani Maphwanya, and chief of the South African Army Gen Lawrence Mbatha have all extended their heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased soldiers.
Recognizing the need for privacy, the bereaved families have requested the media and the public to respect their wishes. It is a time of immense grief, and the families must be allowed to mourn their loved ones in peace.
