Tragedy Strikes Again On N3 Near Ladysmith: 3 Lives Lost In Boxing Day Crash.

On Boxing Day, tragedy struck once again on the N3 near Ladysmith, claiming the lives of three individuals, including a 10-year-old girl. This incident marks the second fatal accident to occur along this route within a week.

Just two days prior, on Christmas Eve, five people lost their lives in another collision on the same stretch of road, while two others were hospitalized.

Samantha Meyrick, spokesperson for emergency services IPSS Medical Rescue, provided details about the devastating accident that took place on Tuesday.

Emergency services received reports of a serious collision around noon, and upon arrival, they were met with a scene of destruction where two cars had collided head-on.

Tragically, it was determined that three occupants had sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Another individual was found severely trapped in one of the vehicles, with critical injuries. The emergency responders utilized the Jaws of Life to extricate the patients and provided stabilization before rushing them to a nearby hospital.

Among the victims was a 10-year-old girl, adding to the heartbreak of this already devastating incident. Our deepest condolences go out to the family affected by this tragic loss.

Recalling the events of Christmas Eve, Meyrick recounted the horrific scene that awaited paramedics. Two vehicles had collided at high speed, resulting in the loss of life for the sole occupant of one vehicle.

The second vehicle had six occupants, with four losing their lives in the collision. A 12-year-old girl sustained critical injuries and had to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

These recent accidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers that exist on our roads. Last week, Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, highlighted the alarming statistic that over 700 people have lost their lives in road accidents since December 1.

This tragic toll underscores the urgent need for increased road safety measures and heightened awareness among all road users.
