Authorities have identified three individuals as suspects in the rape case of a seven-year-old former learner from Bergview College in the Eastern Cape. Among those implicated is the school’s principal. The crime took place on the school’s grounds last year.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu confirmed the identities of the suspects, describing the case as one of the highest priorities for law enforcement.

“The investigations are being handled with the utmost seriousness and priority,” he said in a statement on Saturday. “The South African Police Service (SAPS) is working diligently to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible are held accountable.”
Bergview College’s Failure to Cooperate Leads to Deregistration
The investigation has been further complicated by the lack of cooperation from Bergview College. The Provincial Education Department took drastic action by deregistering the school after it failed to assist in the investigation.
This move emphasizes the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case, ensuring that educational institutions uphold their responsibility to protect their students.
In response to the lack of cooperation, Mchunu stated that the investigation continues at full speed, with all necessary witness statements now collected.
“The investigating officer has secured all outstanding witness statements,” he confirmed.
DNA Evidence to Strengthen the Case Against Suspects
DNA samples have been collected from all three suspects, and police are moving quickly to compile the necessary evidence for prosecution.
Mchunu assured the public that the suspects will face justice in due course. “Those involved in this horrific incident will face justice,” he emphasized.
