On Friday, 19 April, at approximately 4:20 pm, law enforcement officials made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking.

An estimated value of R2 million worth of mandrax was confiscated from a vehicle on the N2 near Sir Lowry’s Pass, as it headed towards Cape Town from the Eastern Cape, The Times Post has learned.

This successful operation was a result of the swift reaction and collaboration between the Hawks South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEb) and Crime Intelligence’s Counter Narcotics and Gangs in the Western Cape.

Acting on credible information, the authorities were able to intercept a vehicle suspected of transporting drugs from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town.

Upon spotting the vehicle, it was promptly stopped and thoroughly searched. During the inspection, law enforcement officers discovered a hidden compartment in the back of the vehicle. Inside, they found 50 packets, totalling 50,000 units, of the illicit drug mandrax.
