The Electricity Minister of South Africa, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has assured the public that the government’s efforts to address the electricity crisis in the country are not sinister.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga, Ramokgopa emphasized that all the actions taken so far have been deliberate and part of a well-planned strategy.
One of the positive outcomes of these efforts is the absence of rolling blackouts, also known as load shedding, for over a month now.

Ramokgopa highlighted that the Kusile Power Station is currently operating at an impressive energy availability factor (EAF) of 93%. This increased availability has significantly reduced Eskom’s reliance on diesel.
Ramokgopa further explained that the early return of three units at the power station has resulted in an additional 2400 megawatts of electricity.
These additional units have played a crucial role in resolving the energy crisis. He emphasized that all these efforts have been carefully orchestrated and are not sudden or unexpected.
The Energy Minister’s briefing also touched upon the implementation of the Energy Action Plan. This comprehensive plan aims to address the challenges faced by the energy sector and ensure a stable and reliable power supply for the country.
