The trial into the murder of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa continued in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday, with a constable’s failure to make any arrests after witnessing the exchange of guns taking center stage.

Constable Sizwe Zungu testified that he was at his nephew’s place in a hostel on the day Meyiwa was killed when he saw three of the accused heading to his nephew’s room.

He followed them out of suspicion and walked into the room to find Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya holding a .38 revolver and Mthobisi Mncube with a 9mm pistol.

During cross-examination, the defense asked Zungu why he had failed to act after witnessing the exchange of firearms.

The defense advocate questioned, “As a police officer, you saw people exchange firearms in a hostel room and did nothing?”

Zungu disagreed with the accusation and stated that he was testifying against the accused in court.

Prior to this incident, Zungu had testified that he was with the five accused men at a hostel in Vosloorus on the night of Meyiwa’s murder.

He revealed that Sibiya had shared the news of Meyiwa’s death before it became public knowledge.

The accused, Bongani Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli, are on trial for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.

They have pleaded guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of ammunition.
