City Power in Johannesburg is set to resume its crucial work in the Alexandra community this morning. The decision follows a productive meeting held on Wednesday between the utility and local community leaders.
This marks a positive step forward after the temporary halt in operations caused by an unfortunate incident earlier in the week.
Temporary Halt After Attack on City Power Employees
Operations in Alexandra were briefly suspended on Tuesday evening after two City Power employees were attacked by community members while attempting to address power outages in the area.
The attack halted the much-needed restoration work, leading to frustration on both sides. City Power, however, remained committed to finding a resolution and ensuring the safety of their workers while fulfilling their mandate.
City Power Strongly Condemns Violence and Calls for Cooperation
Speaking on the matter, the company’s spokesperson Isaac Mangena emphasized the importance of cooperation and peaceful dialogue in resolving the issue.
“We strongly condemn these actions because violence against those trying to restore essential services only makes the situation worse. These same services will be needed by the community in the future, and cooperation is key to ensuring that everyone has access to reliable power,” Mangena stated.
