A brutal altercation in the Marry Me informal settlement of Soshanguve, located north of Pretoria, has left four people dead and eight others severely injured.
The violent clash occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when members of the local community policing forum (CPF) came into contact with a group of individuals on the street. The situation quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation that shocked the community.
Community Policing Forum Members Encounter Hostile Group During Routine Patrol
According to preliminary reports, CPF members were conducting their regular patrol in the Marry Me informal settlement when they spotted a group of people gathered on the street.
The circumstances surrounding the encounter remain unclear, but as the CPF members approached the group, a violent fight broke out. The situation spiralled out of control, leading to multiple casualties, including fatalities and serious injuries.
Ongoing Investigation: Police Probe Murder and Attempted Murder Charges
The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili confirmed that the authorities are probing four counts of murder and eight counts of attempted murder.
Authorities discovered four bodies, all bearing gunshot wounds and showing signs of being partially burned. Eyewitnesses reported that the eight injured victims were quickly transported to nearby hospitals, either in ambulances or private vehicles.
