South African content creator Grace Mondlana, known for her wholesome lifestyle content and viral TikTok videos, has poured her heart out over the devastating loss of her ex-boyfriend, Sipho Lazarus Zulu, who tragically died in a car accident on June 29.
In an emotional tribute shared online, Grace broke her silence about a relationship she fiercely protected from the spotlight.
“Sipho was the love of my life for more than five years,” she confessed.
“I have kept my relationship with him off the internet for so long and I would say I’m travelling alone, whereas I was with him every time. I protected us.”
The couple’s love story began at university when Grace was 18 and Sipho 24. From sharing first-time experiences—from their first beach day to their first flights—to launching a tutoring business together, they were each other’s anchor through the chaos of early adulthood.

Their love wasn’t just romance—it was partnership in its purest form. Grace reminisced about the humble beginnings of their hustle:
“With our first payment from a client, I got him sneakers and we stopped sharing mine. LOL.”
Their bond was unbreakable—even when their romantic chapter closed earlier this year. Though they had moved on, they never truly lost touch.
“While we checked in on each other, we made the decision to move on… The night before he died he sent me a message that was an indirect goodbye, mentioning how he was proud of me and that I should continue to take care of myself.”

In what feels like a heartbreaking movie scene, Grace Mondlana recounted the final goodbye she never imagined she’d have to say.
“When I looked at his body after the accident at the hospital, for once, I couldn’t save him.”
Grace Mondlana gave him what she calls her “final act of love”—a beautiful send-off, wrapped in memory and pain.
“Though I always wish he’d wake up and say, ‘Chubby cheeks, uyakhala? Uyakhalaaaaa!’”
Mourning, Memories & Moving Forward
Despite the break-up, the loss has hit Grace like a freight train. She’s been visiting Sipho’s home daily and passing the crash scene—twice a day.
“My heart drops every time,” she said.
Thankfully, Grace Mondlana hasn’t had to face it alone. She thanked her support system, including her current partner, for standing by her in a week filled with grief.
“To everyone who came to my place this week, sent me flowers and words of encouragement… plus my partner who’d drive behind me every day without fail… from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.”
