In a recent court case, bank and phone records have been presented as crucial evidence to support the claim that renowned rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was followed from the airport on the day he was tragically killed.
The incident, which occurred in February of last year, took place on Durban’s busy Florida Road, resulting in the death of AKA and his friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
One of the key individuals implicated in the case is Muziwethemba Gwabeni, who stands as accused number four. Gwabeni is believed to be the mastermind behind the alleged hit on AKA.

The prosecution has presented evidence suggesting that Gwabeni followed the celebrated artist from the moment his plane landed.
During the bail application hearing at the Durban Magistrates Court, State Prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba revealed compelling evidence against Gwabeni. Gcaba informed the court that Gwabeni’s virtual cards showed a payment made at the airport parking lot.
This payment coincided with the time when AKA was leaving the airport, indicating a potential connection between Gwabeni and the rapper’s movements.
Furthermore, CCTV footage captured a grey BMW, which was allegedly used by Gwabeni, following AKA’s car. As AKA’s vehicle passed a toll booth, two cars were observed trailing behind, with the third car being the same BMW associated with Gwabeni.
The footage also showed the BMW at the Hilton Hotel in Umhlanga, providing further evidence of Gwabeni’s presence and association with the case.
Cellphone records were also presented, shedding light on Gwabeni’s movements and potential involvement. The records indicated the direction in which Gwabeni travelled, further linking him to the events surrounding AKA’s tragic demise.
The court proceedings have now been adjourned until the 15th of May when a decision regarding Gwabeni’s bail application will be made.
The presentation of bank and phone records, as well as the compelling CCTV footage, has significantly strengthened the prosecution’s case against Gwabeni as the alleged mastermind and spotter in this high-profile murder case.
