I don’t think we will ever recover from this. We might seem strong, but deep down we wish we could wake up from this terrible nightmare and see your beautiful face and hear your wonderful voice saying, ‘ke rata batswadi baka ka pelo ka moka’ (I love my parents wholeheartedly).”
The accident that took Onthatile’s life occurred on the R37 near the Smelters Mine outside Polokwane. Shebeshxt’s car overturned after colliding with a truck while he was on his way to a gig at around 10 pm.
The impact killed his daughter and left the rapper and another passenger seriously injured. The police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Shebeshxt’s wife, Kholofelo Chuene, has been inconsolable since the accident. A close friend of the musician revealed, “She is not okay and was given medication to calm down.
“She has not been able to eat. We hope she gets through this because she has endured a lot.” The burial was attended by family and close friends, all grappling with the immense loss.
The tragic loss of Onthatile Gladys Chuene has left an indelible mark on her family and community.
As Shebeshxt poignantly noted, “we will never recover from this.” The pain of losing a child is immeasurable, and the community’s thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time.
