The Department of Home Affairs has announced an expansion in its investigation into the nationality of Chidimma Adetshina, a contestant in the Miss South Africa pageant.
This follows alarming findings that suggest potential fraud and identity theft involving the contestant’s mother.
The investigation took a critical turn after prima facie evidence indicated that Adetshina’s mother might have committed both fraud and identity theft.

Specifically, it appears a South African woman was unable to register her child due to identity theft, allegedly conducted by Adetshina’s mother. The Department of Home Affairs has pledged to identify any officials who may have been complicit in this scheme.
The Miss South Africa organizers requested this detailed probe. With the consent of Adetshina and her mother, the Department commenced its investigation, aiming to clarify the situation.
As Adetshina was just an infant during the alleged unlawful actions in 2001, she could not possibly have participated in these activities.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber has emphasized that the department is currently seeking legal advice regarding the citizenship implications for Adetshina arising from her mother’s alleged fraudulent actions.
Upon completing the investigation, Home Affairs plans to press criminal charges against all implicated parties. This comprehensive probe underscores the department’s commitment to upholding the integrity of South African citizenship.
