Commuters travelling between Seshego and Polokwane will now pay more for taxi transport after the Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association introduced a fare hike effective from today.

The fare on the route has increased by R5, moving from R15 to R20.

The association says the increase was unavoidable as operators continue to face rising fuel prices and mounting operating costs.

Association chairperson Takalani Nemahungani said every effort had been made to avoid passing the additional costs on to commuters.

Nemahungani says, “We have tried our best to come up with a mechanism so that we can at least manage not to increase the fare because we understand the problem that our customers are going to face, but we end up having no any other alternative but to increase the fare. We know that this will cause inconvenience, as we know that most of our people are not working.”
