Betsy Hackman, on the other hand, contracted hantavirus, a rare and potentially fatal disease transmitted through the excrement of infected rodents. The disease presents flu-like symptoms that can escalate to severe respiratory distress and organ failure.

Dr. Jarrell explained that Gene Hackman’s pacemaker data indicated his last recorded activity occurred about a week before his body was found, leading to the conclusion that he passed away on or around February 18. It was further deduced that Betsy Hackman likely passed away first, with February 11 marking the last day she was alive.

A Legacy of Film and Family

Gene Hackman, one of Hollywood’s most revered stars, had a career spanning several decades and was known for his powerful performances.

He won two Academy Awards, first for his role as the tough cop Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in The French Connection (1971), and later for his portrayal of the ruthless sheriff “Little Bill” Daggett in Unforgiven (1992).

His ability to immerse himself in complex characters made him a staple in American cinema well into his 70s.
