The Proteas achieved a monumental milestone on Wednesday by advancing to their first-ever T20 World Cup final.

In a dominating performance, South Africa crushed Afghanistan by nine wickets at Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium. The comprehensive victory was a result of exceptional bowling and a composed run chase.

After opting to bat first, Afghanistan encountered a ruthless South African bowling attack.

Left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi (3/6) and pacer Marco Jansen (3/16) were the chief architects of Afghanistan’s downfall, reducing them to a meagre total of 56 in just 11.5 overs.

Fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje maintained relentless pressure, each claiming two wickets to further stifle Afghanistan’s batting lineup.

This batting collapse was a stark contrast to Afghanistan’s spirited performance against Bangladesh on Monday, which saw them reach the semi-finals.

Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, who had been key to Afghanistan’s success, failed to provide the necessary platform. Gurbaz’s early dismissal, caught at slip by Reeza Hendricks off Jansen’s bowling, set the tone for a dismal batting display.

In response, South Africa lost Quinton de Kock early, but Reeza Hendricks (29 not out) and captain Aiden Markram (23 not out) ensured there were no further hiccups. The Proteas reached their target of 60 with ease, finishing at 60/1 off just 8.5 overs.

This victory propels South Africa into Saturday’s final in Barbados, where they will face the winner of the semi-final clash between England and India.
