A 35-year-old taxi driver has been arrested by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) on charges of reckless and negligent driving, as well as fraud.
The driver, who was operating a Toyota Quantum Ses’fikile minibus taxi, was apprehended after being stopped for reckless driving. During the investigation, it was discovered that the driver’s license he presented did not belong to him.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson for the EMPD, the arrest took place in the Tembisa area.

Officers from the Tembisa precinct observed the white Toyota Quantum minibus taxi driving recklessly and disregarding road traffic signs near the Isangweni taxi rank. A pursuit ensued, and the driver eventually stopped at a traffic light next to the Mpho Bridge in the Mpho section.
Upon approaching the suspect, it was revealed that the driver had produced a fraudulent driver’s license with a photo that did not match his own. When questioned, the suspect admitted that the license belonged to his brother, who is currently residing in Zimbabwe.
The taxi driver was promptly handcuffed and taken into custody at the Rabasotho Police Station. He is now facing charges under the Immigration Act, in addition to the initial charges of reckless and negligent driving.
The police also stated that the driver will be charged with fraud for presenting a fake driver’s license.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Quantum minibus taxi has been impounded and taken to the Tembisa EMPD precinct for further investigation.
