A 19-year-old high school pupil has died after he was allegedly assaulted during an altercation at a school in northern KwaZulu-Natal. Police have since arrested four fellow pupils in connection with the incident. The tragedy unfolded at a school in the Sundumbili area on Tuesday.
KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a murder investigation as they work to determine what led to the fatal confrontation. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Sundumbili Police Arrest Four Pupils Over School Death
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that Sundumbili police arrested four pupils aged between 15 and 20. They are facing a charge of murder following the death of the 19-year-old learner.

According to Netshiunda, the victim was allegedly assaulted inside the school premises. Investigators are still trying to establish what sparked the fight between the pupils.
KZN School Fight Ends In Tragedy
Emergency responders from IPSS Medical Rescue attended the incident after receiving reports that a learner had been struck on the head during a physical altercation with another pupil. The teenager was reportedly left unconscious following the incident.
When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the pupil had already died from his injuries.
“Sadly, on arrival of IPSS Medical Rescue, it was found the pupil had succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene.”

Police have not yet disclosed what caused the altercation or whether additional arrests could follow. Detectives are continuing their investigation to establish the full sequence of events leading to the learner’s death.
The four arrested pupils are expected to face legal proceedings as the murder investigation continues.
