Former IDAC head Andrea Johnson and dismissed crime intelligence deputy Feroz Khan have been granted bail of R10,000 each after appearing in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The pair are accused of defeating the ends of justice in connection with an investigation into Khan’s alleged assault of a female brigadier in 2018.

It is alleged that Johnson shared information about investigations involving Khan with him, potentially allowing him to prepare for the proceedings.

Their matter has been postponed to February 2027.

Johnson Charged Under NPA Act

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed that Johnson faces a charge of contravening the NPA Act.

Kganyago said Johnson was not heading IDAC when the alleged offence took place. She was then based at the Director of Public Prosecutions’ office in Pretoria.

“At the time when the alleged offence was done, Andrea Johnson wasn't the head of IDAC. She was at the DPP office here in Pretoria, and it is alleged that she then gave information that she was not supposed to give to the accused person to allow them to prepare. Therefore, that is in contravention of the NPA Act,” Kganyago said.

The allegation centres on whether information that Johnson was not authorised to disclose was allegedly shared with Khan.

Case Linked To Alleged 2018 Assault

The case relates to Khan’s alleged assault of a female brigadier in 2018. The prosecution’s allegations against Johnson concern the alleged disclosure of information connected to investigations involving Khan.

The charges have not been proven in court. Both accused remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Johnson and Khan were released on bail of R10,000 each, with the case postponed to February 2027.
